Andrea Lux Miyashita

Andrea Lux Miyashita defends and provides advice and training to Hawai`i businesses, both small and large, regarding a wide variety of labor and employment matters.  Those matters include, but are not limited to, claims of discrimination on the basis of sex, race, national origin, age, and disability, failure to accommodate, retaliation, hostile work environment, and wrongful termination.  Ms. Miyashita also conducts fact-finding investigations involving alleged harassment, retaliation, and other workplace issues.

Prior to joining MJW, Ms. Miyashita was a trial attorney in Florida where she represented individual and corporate defendants in general negligence claims (e.g. premises liability, negligent security, and negligent hiring, retention, training and supervision), contract disputes, and matters involving alleged employment discrimination.  She also defended medical malpractice actions on behalf of acute care hospitals, outpatient centers and clinics, physicians of various specialties, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare practitioners.  Ms. Miyashita brings with her trial experience, as well as appellate experience.  Not only has she written numerous appellate briefs, but she also served as a judicial extern for The Honorable Philip J. Padovano at the First District Court of Appeal while finishing her final year of law school as a visiting student at The Florida State University College of Law.

As a Bright Futures Scholarship recipient, Ms. Miyashita earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida (Tampa) in 2002, with a major in Public/Cultural Communications and Interpersonal/Organizational Communications and a minor in Business Administration.  She later received her J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law (Jacksonville), maintaining entitlement to a Governor’s Merit Scholarship for all three years.  While in law school, Ms. Miyashita received the Book Award for earning the highest grade in Jurisprudence (an advanced legal writing course), was a member of the winning team in a Trial Advocacy course where mock civil and criminal trials were conducted before juries, and was recognized for devoting a substantial number of hours to pro bono service.

Ms. Miyashita is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Hawai`i, as well as all Florida state courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
